Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What percentage of the store's proceeds benefit the Crawford County Humane Society?
Q: Do you refuse any donations?
A: We appreciate the generosity of our supporters but, unfortunately, we must refuse some donations. Donated items should be clean, gently used and not soiled, stained, broken or torn. For a more specific list of items which we cannot accept, visit Unacceptable Donations.
Q: Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes! Crawford County Humane Society's Second Chance Thrift Store is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and any donation made to the thrift store is 100% tax deductible if you are a taxpayer who itemizes deductions on federal tax returns. Just keep your receipt and itemized donation list for your tax records. IRS regulations require that you provide your own valuation of charitable gifts other than cash. We cannot establish a value for you. For all tax-related questions, we recommend that you speak with your tax advisor.
Q: Do you offer any discounts?
A: Yes! Senior citizens over age 60 and Allegheny College students receive a 10% discount. Make sure that you provide proof of age or student status at the register and the discount will be applied to your purchase.
Q: Will you pick up my donations?
A: Unfortunately, we are unable to pick up donations. All donations must be dropped off at the thrift store during normal business hours.
Q: Will you repair my broken appliances or damaged furniture?
A: We are unable to repair broken or damaged items.
Q: Can I donate out-of-date clothing?
A: Absolutely. Gently used vintage clothing is very popular.
Q: What do you do with my donation if you don't sell it in the store?
A: All excess, unsold merchandise is discarded.
Q: Do you need volunteers?
A: Our store manager will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about volunteering.
